What is Lampworking?

Lampworking is the art and process of melting glass into the shapes of beads, vessels, and other treasures and trinkets.

Lampworking began thousands of years ago when people would use the flame from their oil lamps to melt the glass into bead shapes.

From the beginning of time there have been wonderful aromas all about
the earth.  In time these scents were collected and used for aromatherapy.  Beautiful bottles were then created to contain the captured scents of nature.  Perfume and perfume bottles were very costly items that were only
afforded by the most wealthy.

In ancient Egypt the wealthy Egyptians kept their valuable perfumed oils
in beautifully designed vessels of stone or glass.  They believed the soul would need to use all the same possessions in the afterlife as were used in
this life.  Numerous jars, bottles, and oil vessels were found in the royal tombs.  Oils and unguents were worn as both fragrance and protection
from the dry desert climate.  Nefertiti was even known for the beautiful
blue glass vessels she prized for her oils and eye paints.

Perfumed gifts were even given to the Christ child as a most precious gift.  During Christ's life he was also gifted with expensive oils and perfumes,
such as Spikenard.  These beautiful vessels and aromatic oils would cost someone several months to a year worth of income.

These vessels are made in the same manner as they have been for
thousands of years.  "Lampworking" is a term that was derived from
the process in which glass was melted over an oil lamp.  Although I use
state-of-the-art equipment in the process of lampworking today, I use
the same method in forming each piece.

These gorgeous lampwork vessels are each a one-of-a-kind unique creation.  A wearable and usable piece of art!  Each vessel has a removeable top that allows you to fill the vessel with aromatherapy oils, perfumes or any small trinkets that your heart desires.
