Flower Facts:
Heather is a small shrub found widely in Europe and Asia Minor on well-drained acidic soils in open sunny situations and in moderate shade.  It is tolerant of moderate grazing and can regenerate from occasional burning.  It is a common component of heath and moorland habitats.  Heather is an important food source for various animals such as sheep and deer, which can graze the tips of the plants when snow covers low growing vegetation.
Heather is a popular ornamental plant in gardens and for landscaping.  Heather is an ingredient in gruit, a mixture of flavorings used in the brewing of beer during the Middle Ages before the use of hops.  Heather is also the national flower of Scotland.

Flower Meaning:

Compassion, Healing, Listening, Self - Concern, Esteem, and Expression
Bloom and Blossom:
Heather helps those who become too absorbed in their own problems and worries.  Such persons are deeply lonely and in great pain, but they seek contact with others in a dysfunctional manner.  Feeling empty inside, the Heather type hopes to relieve its hunger by "feeding" off the psychic attention and sympathy of others.  In most cases this excessive self-concern repels others from forming a truly empathetic bond.  Thus the Heather type becomes increasingly lonely and dysfunctional.

In extreme states, such a person may learn to manipulate psychic energy so that others are compelled to listen to and attend to their problems. Heather nourishes the soul's feeling of profound emptiness so that it can become stronger within itself, and realize compassion.  This is the key to experiencing love, for one is healed from one's own suffering by learning to care for and perceive the suffering of others.  Heather heals the soul by reversing psychic currents of energy which are directed too strongly toward the Self.  By learning to find itself in caring for others, the
Heather soul becomes self-fulfilled rather than self-absorbed.  The
colors that represent Heather are pink and purple.

The positive qualities of Heather are:  Inner tranquility; emotional self-sufficiency; and positive solitude.
