Flower Meaning:

Healing, Learning, Direction, Manifestation, and Perseverance
Bloom and Blossom:
The soul can become strong and vibrant only by becoming resilient. Obstacles and problems test the soul's ability to respond, and to trust in the unfoldment of life.  Those drawn to Gentian become too easily discouraged and disheartened when problems and setbacks occur.  Such souls view impediments as insurmountable problems, and are unable to discover solutions.  The individual needs to learn that such vexing situations occur because they are exactly those lessons which are needed for growth and strength.  Gentian gives encouragement, especially helping the soul to shift its mental perspective and see the long view.  The doubting and skeptical qualities which the soul harbors are gradually transformed into deeper faith. The Gentian flower helps the soul to acquire great inner fortitude and unwavering trust in the outcome of life events.  The
color that represents Gentian is purple.

The positive qualities of Gentian are:  Perseverance, confidence; and faith
to continue despite apparent setbacks.

Flower Facts:
Gentians have trumpet-shaped flowers which are usually deep blue or azure, but may vary from white, creamy and yellow to red and purple.  Some species are of medicinal use and their roots were harvested for the manufacture of tonic liquor, for instance in France "Suze" or similar liquors. Gentian is also used as a flavoring, for example in bitters, and the soft drink "Moxie" which contains "Gentian Root Extractives."  The name of the genus is derived from Gentius, an ancient King of Illyria (180-167 B.C.), who, according to Pliny and Dioscorides, discovered the medicinal value of these plants. During the Middle Ages, Gentian was commonly employed as an antidote to poison.
