Tree Facts:
Elms are deciduous and semi-deciduous trees.  Elms are hermaphroditic,
having perfect flowers, and which, being wind-pollinated, are without petals.  Elm wood was valued for its interlocking grain, and consequent resistance to splitting, with significant uses in wheels, chair seats and coffins.  The wood is also resistant to decay when permanently wet, and hollowed trunks were widely used as water pipes during the mediaeval period in Europe.  From the 18th century to the early 20th century, elms were among the most widely planted ornamental tree in both Europe and North America.  They were particularly popular as a street tree in avenue plantings in towns and cities, creating high-tunnelled effects, and to this day, 'Elm Street' remains the commonest road name in the USA.

Tree Meaning:

Ambition, Confidence, Leadership, and Parenting
Bloom and Blossom - Root and Grow:
The healthy soul expresses itself by wanting to care for and serve others, but at times this positive altruistic impulse can be overwhelming.  Becoming responsible requires that one rightly assesses one's "ability to respond." Over-perfectionist or unrealistic goals can result in fatigue and overwhelm at a later point when the individual is simply unable to measure up to the tasks assumed.  Feelings of self-doubt, despondency, and deep feelings of loneliness can set in when the soul feels it must face an overwhelming task relying solely on its own ego forces.  It is necessary at these times to shift
the identity from that of hero or rescuer to an alignment with the true energy and inspiration of the Higher Self.  In this way the individual is able to receive help from others and from the spiritual world.  Elm balances the natural leadership capacities within the soul, especially by integrating these with the true directions of the Higher Self.  The
color that represents Elm is reddish brown.

The positive qualities of Elm are:  Joyous service, faith and confidence to complete one's task; and ability to shoulder tasks effectively.
